Sep 20, 2007·i think in soap making process, fat polymers are hydrolysed with sodium hydroxide to give a sodium salt. depending on the fat molecule, it can result in anything from sodium stearate to sodium silicate. a soap molecule consists of two parts, an ionic head which dissolves in water and a covalent tail which is suppose to bond with grease and dirt.
